Saturday, November 15th, the Lotus School for Excellence (LSE) hosted its eleventh annual MathMatters Contest and S.T.E.A.M. festival. MathMatters is a contest open to fourth and fifth graders seeking to participate in Math-related competitions for a chance to win prizes. In addition to the contest, LSE celebrated S.T.E.A.M. education. S.T.E.A.M. denotes Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Technology. The purpose of the event is to inspire participating fourth and fifth graders to consider a S.T.E.A.M. career. LSE seeks to encourage attendees to further explore S.T.E.A.M. topics and educational programs through activities and demonstrations.
Demonstrations were planned and organized by students and by teachers of Lotus School for Excellence. LSE also invited other Denver-area schools that have embraced the S.T.E.M./S.T.E.A.M. pedagogical movement, making the festival a wide-reaching community event. Activities included math, science, and technology demonstrations; an art exhibition; and a robotics show from LSE’s award-winning Robotics Team. The festival and the MathMatters contest were great successes
